Red Tail Black Cockatoo - Project of the Year 2026

This project in Naracoorte features the endangered South-Eastern Red-Tail Black Cockatoo — a species under threat in the very region it calls home. The design was chosen to celebrate the wildlife that makes this place so special and to shine a light on a bird that deserves to be seen.

Funded by a local council arts grant and developed in close consultation with the council's public arts team, the project was shaped by community from the very beginning. On completion day, students from a council-run community art class came together to add the finishing touches — making their mark on a court that now belongs to everyone.

More than a mural, it's a celebration of community, creativity, and conservation — and a testament to what happens when local voices, local knowledge, and local love for a place are given colour and space. Recognised as Project of the Year at the Sport Group Conference in Macau 2026, this project brought Naracoorte to a global stage.

Hoop Dreams.

The Daguragu court was commissioned by the House of Darwin as part of the Freedom Day Festival — a celebration marking 50 years since the Gurindji people walked off Wave Hill Station in one of the most pivotal moments in the history of Indigenous land rights in Australia.

The design was created by the local traditional owners themselves, ensuring the court reflects the culture, pride and identity of the community it belongs to. Built in the lead up to the 50 year anniversary, the court was ready to be celebrated alongside one of the most significant milestones in Australian history.

More than a sports court, it's a focal point for gathering, play and cultural connection — a space where the community can come together and see themselves reflected in the place they call home. By combining visual impact with functionality, the project has become a lasting community hub that honours both the past and the future of this remarkable place.

Centennary Park, Lucindale

A contemporary visual ode to the rich agricultural heritage of the Lucindale area; depicting sweeping crops, wheat, the golden sun and open skies that define the South Australian landscape.

This project came directly off the back of our award-winning Naracoorte court — with the Naracoorte-Lucindale Council seeing what was possible and bringing us just 40km down the road to do it again. A testament to what a strong first project can unlock.

Developed in collaboration with the council, the community had a say from the start. Early in the process, students from Lucindale Primary School came out and painted the small golden wheat details that bring the agricultural story to life up close — their contribution woven into the heart of the work rather than added at the end. The council and community said it added the perfect touch of colour, blending beautifully with the surrounding landscape.

Transforming a community basketball court into a vibrant celebration of place, people, and the land that sustains them — painted on Laykold professional-grade acrylic surfaces, the official surface of the US Open.

Sensory Play

A vibrant sensory path weaving imagination and learning into everyday play; depicting numbers, letters and various games across 580 square metres of transformed asphalt at Naracoorte South Primary School.

Commissioned directly by the school, this project was shaped by the students themselves. The Year 6 class designed the games that were later woven into the overall layout of the path — giving the kids who use it every day a real sense of ownership over the space they helped create.

The path was designed to act as a thoroughfare; a corridor that sparks curiosity, movement and joy with every step. It connects the school grounds in a way that's both functional and alive. Teachers have since told us they use the space to coordinate class groups — walking students from one end to the other before heading back to class — a small detail that speaks to how completely the path has been absorbed into the daily life of the school.

More than a sensory installation, it's a space where learning doesn't stop at the classroom door.
